Concept Statement

Pipe, Zoom, Squeeze, Kit:
For the girls, I plan for their uniforms to take on a modern dark academia look while containing elements that are nostalgic to 2008. Some of these elements may include shoes, accessories, prints, and layers that were popular in 2008. Each uniform and element will also bring out each of the girls’ personalities with some of the uniforms having pants, shorts, skirts, polo shirts, and/or hoodies/jackets.

As the months change, the characters will do quick add ons or take offs on their costumes to show time has passed. Add ons and/or take offs would include jackets, accessories, and changing of the shoes.

Pipe: Pipe has a more preppy look. I saw her as if she was trying to fit a “perfect girl” image especially since her little sister died.

Zoom: Zoom has a more girly and cute style. She is the youngest in the group too. However, she does have some sporty aspect like her shoes and bag choice since it’s interpreted that she plays soccer.

Squeeze: Squeeze has a simple look because she is still in mourning from her dad’s death. Although, there are some elements that still express her theater side such as the shiny shoes and bag.

Kit: She has a full costume change. The cold stone costume (nostalgic) to an on stage change. I plan to explore the option of having Kit change into a casual shirt that defines her style and personality more or having her change into a back up school uniform shirt. I find the casual shirt more suitable since the characters give off the “rebellious teenager” feel, but I will keep options open.

Pablo:
Option #1
I wanted to explore the concept of “a deal with a devil.” Pablo is a cartel leader and the girls idolize him, so I imagined him in a dressy attire (slacks, button up, formal shoes, vest). I also want to include color symbolism by using black and gold which represent power. This ties into how Pablo is encouraging Pipe and the girls to bring the loudness out. As Pipe’s Little Sister said “I’m making a deal with the devil. The devil inside of me.” I see Pablo as the bridge to making that deal.

Option #2
Combine “a deal with a devil” concept with 1990s cartel clothes. I can play around with the colors for power: black, gold, red, and/or purple. This option will reflect a more realistic version of a cartel leader with semi-formal/casual attire: jeans or slacks, dress shoes, a striped or solid button up, and maybe a blazer. I imagine this as their professional look and what a cartel leader would get arrested in.

Pipe’s Little Sister:
Option #1
[Following the script notes] Have Pipe’s Little Sister in a soaking wet “girly” pink bathing suit with goggles. She would be wearing flip flops or maybe one is missing. She is the image of what people think a little girl is, hence the pink. However, pink can also mean “a lack of willpower, a lack of self-reliance and a lack of self-worth.” I would research and find a shade of pink that evokes this innocence, but dark and hidden burden.

Option #2
[Separate from the script notes] To show an image that represents “the paragon of girlhood” , Pipe’s Little Sister can be imagined in a white and/or pink dress. This can represent child innocence, but have a silhouette that gives a ghostly feel. If wanted, this dress could be a coverup for the bathing suit (option #1 plus extra layer). The clothes will still look wet and disheveled (if wanted) to display the drowning incident.
